When you picture a Senior Cyber Support Specialist, don’t just think about someone resetting passwords or plugging in cables. This role is the go-to tier-three support for end-to-end users, the person people call when the easy fixes don’t cut it.
For those looking to transition from military service or advance in their IT career, this position offers a blend of hands-on technical work, leadership growth, and mission impact that’s hard to find elsewhere.
The Mission You’ll Support
This position directly supports Wavelength, a detachment of the 850th Software Group in San Antonio, TX. Wavelength’s mission is to experiment, measure, and learn with fully-kitted teams to deliver electronic warfare (EW)-focused software. In plain terms, they deliver services and products that not only enable EW mission outcomes but also contribute to transforming the Special Warfare Wing into the first digitally focused operational wing in the U.S. Air Force.
If you’re motivated by meaningful work that connects to national defense, this is where your technical expertise meets mission impact.
What the Job Looks Like Day-to-Day
As a Senior Cyber Support Specialist, you’ll:
Build and refine processes, not just follow them. This role gives you the freedom to shape how support operations function.
Work hands-on with IT systems: from setting up laptops, rooms, and equipment to troubleshooting networks and managing hardware inventories.
Field support requests across video, chat, and email, solving issues with professionalism and speed.
Keep digital environments mission-ready, directly enabling DoD operations.
Mentor SkillBridge interns, passing on technical know-how and leadership lessons to the next generation of cyber professionals
It’s a rare chance to combine startup-style energy with public sector experience in a secure but unclassified environment.
What You’ll Need to Bring
This position isn’t entry-level. Success here comes from experience and mindset:
A track record of supporting end-user devices at a high level.
Integrity, accountability, and a problem-solving attitude.
Prior Air Force experience is a plus.
The ability to pass a Tier One background investigation and be eligible for a Secret clearance if needed
Why This Role Stands Out
For many transitioning veterans or mid-career professionals, this role offers something rare:
The opportunity to lead and mentor while still staying deeply technical.
Exposure to both startup-like innovation and federal mission rigor.
A clear path to grow leadership skills while supporting high-impact defense initiatives.
This isn’t just another IT support role. It’s a way to grow your career while helping transform the future of the Air Force’s digital operations.
Got What It Takes?
If you’re serious about taking the next step in your IT or cyber career, the Senior Cyber Support Specialist position is more than a job — it’s a career-defining opportunity. Whether you’re a transitioning veteran or a seasoned IT professional, the combination of hands-on responsibility, leadership development, and mission impact makes this position one to study and aim for.
